The English curriculum here has been designed taking into consideration the need for the excellence of four vital skills of the language-listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A diverse range of activities has been planned and added to the curriculum to assist the same. The activities mentioned here are highly active, learner-focused, and most importantly exciting. This will go a long way in strengthening the focal point of language development through varied activities and skills.
Listening and speaking: These are the most basic yet vital skills needed for developing communication processes. A thorough listening ability sharpens and perfects a greater speaking ability. For developing the same, oral comprehensions, poetry recitation, storytelling through a puppet show, dialogue book activities, phonic sounds assignments in learner’s comate, and more are carefully structured and used. Classroom/group discussions, role-plays, listening, and speaking activities at the end of each chapter in the new Broadway Course Book are all used to develop listening and speaking skills. Language Quiz organized in association with CCA to help youngsters strengthen their linguistic skills also comes under the same projects.
Reading enhances the learner’s inherent potential to comprehend the world around at a faster and quicker pace. Reading is a frequent part of the program, with an emphasis on proper pronunciation, voice modulation, stress, and pauses. We have chapters dedicated solely to reading, pleasure reading books, reading logs, and comprehension passages in the Learners’ comate for the development of this skill. Reading also looks at recitation which is an essential skill at this age, as it helps children develop their sense of rhythm and phonemic awareness.
Sharpening writing skills are essential in developing one of the crucial elements of LSRW. Writing aids in aligning one’s thoughts and expressing them with ease and confidence. It also enhances skills including comprehending, recalling, locating, extending, and making connections. At IVSL, writing skill is practiced extensively through project work, creative writing, genius-at-work, paragraph writing with the help of helping words, picture composition, letter writing (Formal & Informal), comprehension passages in Learner’s Comate, question bank, vocabulary building games, framing sentences, fundamental grammar Concepts (like Nouns, Verbs, Pronouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, Tenses, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Interjections & Sentences, etc.) with aids like grammar games and grammar corners.
Mathematics is one of the universal languages, developing the same would enhance one’s living quality in diverse ways. Maths’s curriculum at IVSL gives strong emphasis on developing Mathematical, Logical, and problem-solving skills, understanding basic operations, estimation, and mental arithmetic. The precept here is solely nurtured on a practical approach where a child has to understand, analyze and apply through conceptual-based learning methods. A strong emphasis is given to reasoning and problem-solving. Following Skills are well developed through our curriculum –Mathematical and Logical Skills- Number Sense (number and numeration, ascending descending, before, after, between) and number operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication & division) Visual and Spatial Skills- Recognizing and labeling shapes, the concept of fractions, duplicate and extended patterns, collecting data, making records using lists or graphical representation.
Measurement and Estimation- This includes familiarizing learners with common measuring units, estimating and measuring real quantity using standard units. understanding and using comparative words (heavy/light/more/less) added with calendar and time. Critical thinking, Problem Solving, and Investigative Skills- Word problems, mental math, worksheet including fast-track assignment (to be solved using mental calculation in limited time.) Linguistic Skills- Emphasis on math vocabulary, reading, and comprehending problem sums. Analytical, understanding, and evaluating skills- Math lab activity, math walk, project work, math game. All the mathematical concepts are practiced with the right amount of exercises to develop patience and persistence among children while going through the mathematical functions.

Environment studies primarily enable young learners to locate and comprehend their relationships between the natural, social and cultural environment through a thorough understanding of the world around them. The pivotal concern here is to engage the learner in exploratory and hands-on activities to acquire basic cognitive skills through observations, classification, and inference. We try to develop and propel the inherent curiosity and creativity of the child, mostly concerning the world around us, by trying to nurture a sense of responsibility towards it. One of the main concerns here is that the environment, with all its wholeness, is tried to imbibe through the materials. The precept here blends and brews meaningful experiences, hands-on activities, powerful visuals, group activities, and project work to develop an ability amongst learners to recognize and solve environmental problems.
Computer learning takes a different turn from class III onwards. In class 3 students are well versed with the dos and don’ts of computers. Children at this age tend to start handling computers independently. Along with differentiating between hardware and software, in-class III, they are introduced to the features of the operating system and are made familiar with applications, software, and more. In addition, they are introduced to MS Word and will also get hold of a simple programming language logo. As a final project, to re-check on their application and creativity, a final project will be given to them, which will be analyzed and reviewed by the teachers.
