Every child is different in their unique element. The fact is accurate especially when it comes to hitting developmental benchmarks with children. For parents, having a clear picture of at least a basic understanding of this developmental phase would aid a lot in engineering the course of parenting. Developmental milestones at the age of 9/10 years mostly revolve around physiological changes, the need for independence, the desire to be accepted by peers, and the rest.
Physical growth acquires pace at the age of 9-10. It’s normal for children during this age to show an increased appetite along with a need for more sleep. Hand preference is well established in most children, resulting in improved handwriting and coordination.
The mind evolves during the phase, where the child starts to think about abstract ideas rather than just about things they observe. The ability to comprehend, plan and coordinate external factors improves during the same age. Discussion and debate-oriented abilities take a higher pitch during the age aiding in the formation of one’s individual opinions. It’s common for children at this age to develop a better sense of responsibility added with a helpful and caring nature.
It’s an observed factor that these children have a very active social and emotional life, and also most are insecure or have mood swings while struggling with self-esteem.
Class-IV kids are increasingly independent of family and have a growing interest in their friends. Most of them are generally truthful and dependable. The precept is designed in such a way as to build confidence, fluency in subjects, improvise oratory skills, enhance curiosity, and boost up their self-esteem so that they become stronger individuals for a later part of life.
Class 4 children are usually more versatile and enthusiastic compared to the other age groups. Students at this age start building the components of language, expressing it as a tool for expressing views and thoughts. They can form their own opinion, present their point of view and actively participate in discussions with others. The syllabus here tries to strike a perfect balance to develop the four main pillars of language namely
Listening and Speaking Skills: Listening and speaking are intrinsically connected, going in parallel with each other. one can’t be polished without the other. Developing one would aid in sharpening the other, a good speaker needs to be a good listener too. Acquiring both skills need to be in a structured and effective manner. Therefore, to develop both skills, the learners are engaged effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners. The method mentioned here aids in helping to express and build on their ideas. Multiple activities have been incorporated to develop their listening and speaking skills.
The activities include listening skill development assignments, dialogue book activities, topics for public discussion and oration, role plays, storytelling, volunteer teaching, debates, speeches, elocutions, poem recitation, and more. The course plan will include more activities including listening and speaking actively at the end of every chapter in the new broadway coursebook, language quiz being organized as a part of CCA to develop linguistic skills amongst children, and other vibrant methods.
Reading Skill: Reading expands one’s mind and takes it through a diverse road of experiences. Building a perfect reading habit helps in faster comprehension, thinking abilities, problem-solving and more virtues. By building an immersive reading habit, the syllabus aids in building pronunciation skills, voice modulation, pauses, etc. To develop reading skills, amongst our students, we have chapters dedicated to reading, reading Mahotsav, pleasure reading books, reading logs, comprehension passages, and poems for learners’ comate.
To make teaching and learning more life-like, the syllabus has been incorporated with activities like gallery walks, project-based learning, map making, diagram making, group discussion, and more. Forgiving a critical touch to our students’ understanding, discussion of HOTS questions are also added at regular intervals. Students are motivated to create their own question bank for each chapter. Through value-added questions, the skills and potential of the students are also channeled.
Art integrated learning (AIL) has become an integral part of the contemporary learning process. The method promotes the need for ‘learning through art’ and learning ‘with the arts’. When the world has become more skill-oriented and innovative in recent years, such an approach propels art to become a medium of learning. This, in turn, makes the learning process much more advanced and plays a key role in understanding concepts within the curriculum.
Art is flexible enough to accommodate age-appropriate learning, this, in turn, would aid the individuals to learn at their own pace rather than lagging behind a structure. The concept closely resonates with that of experiential learning. Art Integrated Learning would include both visual and performing arts so that the learner can accommodate an enhanced perspective and understanding of the various concepts of art.
Computers have become a crucial aspect of our daily lives. Here, Students are made familiar with computers as machines to understand their mechanism. They are introduced to its different parts and their functions. They are also introduced to the Dos and Don’ts of a computer through net hygiene which makes them ready for computer handling. Initially, they touch and feel different parts of the computer and gradually start operating them with ease and confidence.
To evoke their interest in the subject, some fun learning apps are used as starters, and later when they start grasping, they are introduced to some elementary tools such as TUX PAINT, KEA COLOURING BOOK, and Wordpad to develop Basic Computer Literacy.

The activities won’t surpass a specified time of 40-60 minutes maximum, please be aware of the internet usage of the child as a longer timeframe may result in negative results.
Writing is an art and the one who encompasses it is no less than an artist. In Class 4.
students develop independent writing styles where their understanding of sentence structure and grammatical functions is visible. They will be learning to write articles, reports, autobiographies, formal and informal letters, and more. Through writing, they will dwell into characters, plots, settings, and the author’s purpose for writing. Through creative games and other innovative methods, grammatical structure, sentence formation, vocabulary, writing fluency, and other means will be improved.
Maths being one of the universal languages, has been an integral part of our teaching and learning process since the beginning curriculum. Our syllabus is rooted in a method that’ll mold the child into a logical thinker with fast-paced mental calculation skills. The central idea behind this curriculum is to help the child to apply whatever they learn in the real world. All the topics which are covered in the curriculum aim to bring out some of the vital skills namely Problem Solving and logical reasoning. These skills are developed from the base level while dealing with the basic mathematical operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division). The implementation of these operations is further dealt with in fractions, decimals, and simplifications (DMAS Rules).
The skills here are pivotal in shaping the spatial and visual comprehension of the learner. This includes recognition of different types of angles and the identification of fractions with the help of different shapes and figures. It includes measurement and Estimation – The child starts learning from concepts of different Measuring units, conversion of units, perimeter, area, and volume. Time-based conversions, problems, and the concept of temperature are covered in the curriculum. All these concepts are applied into practical usage through methods like maths walk and maths lab activities, critical thinking – word problems, mental maths, worksheets including fast track assignments and more challenging questions

Science can be explained as the word we use to describe a method of organizing our curiosity. Every child has an air of curiosity and the science curriculum here tries to answer and sharpen a curious mind. A child may come across many curious questions which at this age are answered in the best possible way as we make students experience the syllabus on Science and explore the world outside. The outline of our curriculum is composed of thought-provoking topics such as environment, food and nutrition, soil erosion, plants and animal life, studying eclipses, composition, and properties of air, and many more. All these topics give a fruitful outcome as a child learns to predict, infer, classify, communicate and observe changes, logical thinking, and analyze. The syllabus here focuses not just on the facts given in the book, we even touch the cause and effects through several HOTS questions, Science Lab Activities, Gallery Walk, Demonstrations, and Project-Based Learning all with the idea of taking learning beyond classroom walls.
The world around is made up of stories, history, and facts, understanding the world is indeed an exciting activity to pursue. Pursuing social studies will bring the learner closer to the roots of the world, where history and its happenings, geography, and major turning points in history all provide a fun-filled ride. Developing skills like researching, understanding, debating. critical and logical thinking, collecting, comparing information are all essential to unfold one’s learning potential. By combining the aforementioned details, the syllabus here is added with all major turning points in the world to give the students a detailed understanding of the world around us.
