Understanding Children

Children are unique, especially when it comes to hitting developmental benchmarks. Having at least a vague idea about the skills that the child needs to develop during this stage will aid in mentoring their potential. It is observed among children among the age of 10/12 that developmental milestones revolve around psychological changes, the need for independence, and a desire to be accepted by peers. The fact is also obvious that children at this age are full of ideas, and they explore it through games, working, cooperating, and engrossing in the activity at hand.

Children possess an exemplary level of genius which can be closely associated with their curiosity ingrained nature. Their level of curiosity and enthusiasm helps them in comprehending the subject matter added with relating to the teacher with the topic of interest. They look behind the veil to understand the functioning, its reason, and why things happen as they do.

Remarkable changes can be observed in the social and emotional life of the child. It is normal for them to develop a better sense of responsibility and caring nature during the same age. Added with all that, their decision-making ability, problem-solving skills, proficiency in managing multiple variables, all get sharpened during the same timeframe.

The children during this age tend to get more free from family and might intensify their bond with their friends. The precept here is designed in such a way to build confidence, fluency in subjects, improvising oratory skills, sharpen self-esteem, enhance curiosity, and more; so that the learners become stronger individuals capable of taking up challenges in their career and life.

Writing Skill

Writing is nothing less than art, and the one who writes well is nothing less than an artist. During this age, children tend to develop their writing styles where their sentence structure and grammatical function are visible. They will be given training in writing paragraphs, story reviews, picture composition, formal and informal letters, and more. The learners will sharpen their skills in dissecting a story through its plot, setting, characterization, and the author’s reason for writing the same. Through comprehension passages, poems in learners’ comate, question banks, vocabulary building activities, and more similar actions, an aptitude will be developed in students towards writing.

Children through the precept here, will get to know the knows and hows of many factors through hands-on science and the world outside. The curriculum here covers some thought provoking topics including, food, digestion, teeth and microbes, photosynthesis, reproduction in animals, force-work energy, planets and the solar system.

All the topics mentioned here give a fruitful outcome as the child learns predicting, inferring, classifying, communicating and observing changes, logical thinking and analyzing.

Going beyond mere facts in the book, the curriculum here touches the causes and effects through a number of HOTS questions, science lab activities, demonstrations and project-based learning, all with an agenda to make learning happen beyond the classroom walls.

Social Science

The world around us is wrapped in fun and exciting information. To bring more life into the learning process,

IVSL has incorporated activities like gallery-walk, project based learning, map making, diagram making, and group discussion; in order to give a highly critical touch to our students’ understanding, discussion of HOTS questions are also done on regular intervals. Through persistent methods, students are also motivated to create their own question banks for each chapter which will aid in a thorough understanding of the chapters. Through value based questions, we try to give the right values to the students.
