In class-1, the learners slowly walk into a world of symbols and concepts from the world of Kindergarten. Learning at this stage becomes more structured, organized, and routine-based. They begin to explore and question simultaneously. Children at this age are naturally curious and eager to learn. Gradually they begin to make connections between concepts. They start learning by doing. They are bound to make mistakes and may get frustrated in the process. However, we need to retain their focus by continuous encouragement. From grade-1 onwards, the learning abilities of students need to be honed in a structured manner, we need to surround them with a positive learning environment.
Art integrated learning (AIL) has become an integral part of the contemporary learning process. The method promotes the need for ‘learning through art’ and learning ‘with the arts’. When the world has become more skill-oriented and innovative in recent years, such an approach propels art to become a medium of learning. This, in turn, makes the learning process much more advanced and plays a key role in understanding concepts within the curriculum.
Art is flexible enough to accommodate age-appropriate learning, this, in turn, would aid the individuals to learn at their own pace rather than lagging behind a structure. The concept closely resonates with that of experiential learning. Art Integrated Learning would include both visual and performing arts so that the learner can accommodate an enhanced perspective and understanding of the various concepts of art.
The curriculum of English has been designed taking into consideration the development of four vital skills of the language- listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A diverse palette of projects and activities has been devised in the curriculum to assist the same. These activities are active, learner-focused, and most importantly, exciting. The learning experience will go a long way in building the pillars of language development structured meticulously on different skills.
It is the most pivotal skill to develop in the process of communication. Listening skills are directly connected to speaking, for one to be better, the other will demand the same. To hone both listening and speaking skills, we focus on oral comprehension, poetry recitation, story-telling, and more. Through puppet shows, dialogue book activities, phonic sounds assignment in learner’s comate and other activities, children will develop their communication skills which in turn would aid speaking in the class, assembly, and other similar occasions.
Reading is an imperative aspect with emphasis on correct pronunciation, voice modulation, stress, and pauses. For sharpening reading skills, we have chapters dedicated solely for reading, reading sheets/ reading cards in learner’s comate, pleasure reading Books, comprehension passage in learner’s comate, and more. Recitation is a skill that is indispensable at this stage. For developing the sense of rhythm and phonemic awareness amongst children, recitation competitions are organized as a part of CCA to mold their recitation skills.
Writing is an art that helps in structuring thoughts to create narratives. The students are guided and motivated to align their thoughts and express them with ease and confidence. It develops skills including comprehending, recalling, location, extending, and making connections. Writing skills involve paragraph writing, picture composition, comprehension passages in Learner’s comate, question bank, and more. Vocabulary building is an indispensable part of writing which is developed through extra reading, games, framing sentences, and other activities. The part also involves fundamental grammar concepts with aids including grammar games and grammar corners.

Computers have become a crucial aspect of our daily lives. Here, Students are made familiar with computers as machines to understand their mechanism. They are introduced to its different parts and their functions. They are also introduced to the Dos and Don’ts of a computer through net hygiene which makes them ready for computer handling. Initially, they touch and feel different parts of the computer and gradually start operating them with ease and confidence.
To evoke their interest in the subject, some fun learning apps are used as starters, and later when they start grasping, they are introduced to some elementary tools such as TUX PAINT, KEA COLOURING BOOK, and Wordpad to develop Basic Computer Literacy.
